This event will present Magdalena Żelazowska’s latest book, Polish Women in America: Stories of Women Who Crossed the Ocean and Conquered the World. The book follows more than 20 extraordinary immigrant women who achieved success in the United States in a wide variety of fields. Those featured include Helena Modrzejewska, Pola Negri, Tamara Łempicka, Helena Rubinstein, Ruth Handler, Maria Siemionow, Barbara Piasecka-Johnson, Anna Biedrzycka Sheppard, and many others. Join us for a fascinating journey through the lives of these remarkable women, whose accomplishments and determination left their mark on American history, demonstrating that Polish resourcefulness and strength can flourish in any circumstances.
About the Lecturer
Magdalena Żelazowska graduated in linguistics from the University of Warsaw and completed postgraduate studies at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
