New York: 400 Years

In 2024, the 400th anniversary of the founding of New York was celebrated. For the last 44 years, Czesław Czapliński's lens has been capturing images of this fascinating metropolis. The Bernardinum Publishing House has released a bilingual album with the artist's photos. The author and excellent storyteller will share the story of this album with the audience.

Czesław Czapliński is a world-renowned artist photographer, journalist, and documentary filmmaker. Born in 1953 in Łódź, he has lived in New York and Warsaw since 1979. He is the author of 46 albums and books, including: "Portraits with History," "Wojciech Fibak – A Chronicle of a Sports Life," "Artists in Europe," "Following Chopin's Footsteps in Warsaw and Mazovia," and "Michael Jackson," many documentary films, and has had over 100 photographic exhibitions, including at the "Zachęta" National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, the Museum of Art in Łódź, the National Museum in Warsaw, the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw, as well as in New York, Chicago, Nice, Moscow, London, Munich, and Brussels. During his 40-year career, he has photographed the most famous personalities from the world of business, culture, politics, and sports, such as: Calvin Klein, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson, Andy Warhol, Cindy Crawford, and many others. For his work, Czapliński has been honored with many decorations, including the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
